All dog owners can relate to the friendship and love we share for our adorable pets. Since March 23rd is recognized as National Puppy Day, our loyal pups, of course, deserve some extra special treatment.

There’s plenty of things you can do to show some love, and one admirable quality of all pets is their appreciation for the little things. Whether it’s an extra treat, a game of fetch or a long hike in the woods, your pup will happily stick by your side.

If you’re looking to celebrate National Puppy Day, here are a few things you can do to show your canine friend some extra special  love:

1. Indulge a little

There’s nothing better than a good old-fashioned cheat day. If your pup is on a healthy regimen, Puppy Day is the perfect time for a reward. Along with your personal junk food of choice, surprise your pup with some of his or her favorite treats. Beggin’ Strips, Pup-Peroni and Pig Ears are the perfect snacks to make your puppy’s eyes light up.

2. Give the gift of bling

If you don’t already have one, investing in an ID tag for your dog’s collar is a great idea. You can customize it by engraving his or her name on the front, with your name and contact information on the back in case of an emergency. Not only is this a smart move, it’s like gifting your pup a piece of special occasion jewelry! Check out the ID tags available at Petco and start personalizing.

3. Go for a walk

If your dog’s typically cooped up in the house while you’re on-the-go, taking him or her on a walk is just the ticket to brighten their day. If the weather’s nice, both you and your pup will certainly enjoy a leisurely stroll down the street.

4. Play outside

Dogs will pretty much play with you until they physically can’t any longer. Let your puppy get some exercise by taking him or her to the park, or let them run freely around your backyard. You can play fetch, frisbee or simply run around together. You may even get a good workout, yourself!

5. Show your love on social

If you don’t Instagram a picture of your dog on , how will anyone know you own a dog? Show some love and appreciation for your puppy by posting a cute picture on social media. Don’t forget to give FreeShipping.com a shout out on Facebook and Twitter!
